One vote for Uncool here. People who act like this are totally insecure. They are so desperate to be seen as “better” than other people, so they act like ass holes to everyone around them. I’d imagine if they really felt good about themselves, they wouldn’t have to try so hard. I mean, this is not an earth shattering observation I’m making here, I guess it’s pretty obvious. But what is crazy is how many people are like this. IMO, it’s maybe 93% uncool people. Scary. People who are less full of fear and insecurity are good to each other.
You’ve also been working in higher end restaurants, so there is an above average snooty factor there…

I think the reaction to some people really sucking makes considerate conversationalists better at making connections.

That’s an interesting response. I recently wrote a post about the illusion of coolness and what fuels the idea of it. I think, sometimes, people associate aloofness with being cool. Others think that they are so above giving anything an emotional response they don’t have show interest in others. But, connections are about finding the common interests and BEING interested. Conversations are not one sided and gimme, gimme, gimme. If you run into people who behave like that – consider yourself lucky that you don’t have to continue connecting with them.
